I thought I would do a fun post about the songs that inspire me to go traveling. Some of them probably don’t make sense to you and maybe some will. I believe we infuse our experiences into songs we hear around that period of time or that a certain part of the lyric STICKS out at us. So in no particular order, here’s my list:
Want to hear all the songs on a playlist? I made a Youtube playlist for you!
When I first heard this song, it was before I took off for my second trip to Europe in 2015. This song brings me back to that feeling of falling in love with Europe when I visited in 2015. I don’t think I can ever really forget when I listen back to this. The song can be described as a 90’s style type of dance beat with an aurally appealing lyric that just reels you with the chorus.
A fabulous song that has an essence of dubstep with main violin overture. I use to listen to this on my way to work to remind me that I’ll be “taking flight” soon enough which provided a sense of excitement for me. I’m just growing my wings as I listen to this song and waiting for “the drop” out of the nest so I can fly off to some wonderful, faraway place. If you’re more orchestrally inclined, there’s a version for that which I love too.
Wouldn’t it be wonderful to wake up somewhere new like the streets of London? That’s how I felt back when I was in Covent Garden, Picadilly Circus, and Oxford Street. You have to dig the drums during the intro and chorus that just reminds you that life is short, so live it up until your dying days. He was right when it’s “just a feeling that you can’t fight.” Thank you, One Republic!
Though only a fraction of the song has a sensible, discernable lyrics, it’s sweet electric guitar riff that reminds you life is a little softer if you allow it to be. It’s time to forget your worries and move towards happiness. If you want amazing female vocals serenaded behind by a guitar, have a go at this version performed by South City.
This music is probably more suited for those kids running around Tomorrowland but you have to admit there’s a kind of higher vibrational frequency lifting you up from whatever mood you’re in. Typically this is more of my hype up music but it has traveled with me through Europe to accentuate a mood that the world is a beautiful place.
I was listening to this song while I was in Berlin around Reichstag building. I heard it previously before that but somehow this song just seems to “click” with the moment and made me realize how awake I really am to this digital nomad lifestyle. I’m so happy that I am not stuck in the rut of the 9/5 but moving on to the 24/7! There are no lyrics but the song is telling a story of a world slowly waking up through the iron curtains covering our eyes.
Even though the chorus was taken from the Band Perry’s If I Die Young, this song adds a hip-hop element with Dani Ummel’s heavenly voice singing the chorus. The song “sends me away” to a place where I dream of seeing a bigger world. If you want a more dubstep version, check out the Eliminate Remix version. Check out the original with Band Perry version.
“These vagabond shoes are longing to stray” describes my proverbial wanderlust to roam around and make a new start of it. This song struck me when I was in the elevator lift at Trummelbach Falls in Switzerland. Frank has a great voice anyways which pairs superbly with the vintage trumpets to satiate the lust of fernweh.
Luring you in with its sweet flutes, it will calm your angst and lead you home. With both masculine and feminine vocals harmonizing to give you a sense of ease, you can’t help but feel at peace. I was listening to this song when I was on the beach of Hawaii in Waikiki. It just reminds me of the delicious shrimp tempura ramen and divine weather. Check out the acoustic guitar version if you’re more inclined, I swear it’s beautiful. The original version is bound to captivate you too.
I just found this song in December 2016 and I loved it so I had to add it to this list. I love Iselin Solheim’s angelic voice mashed with the awesome house/edm mix. Lyrics doesn’t pertain to traveling but this song definitely inspires me to get out there and travel and leave people wondering where I’ve faded to.
Bonus 1: Jay-Z Ft Mr. Hudson – Young Forever
I love listening to hip hop too but it seems most of the songs on this list were more trance or high energy melodies. Jay-Z totally rides the beat and tells us a story of a place where we don’t have to worry about the future and just enjoy youth like you’re supposed to. If you really want to live forever, live in the moment because tomorrow is not promised today.
GO PRO HERO 5 ACTION CAMERA
I’m super excited about getting my first ever action camera. Although it was a tough decision among the Garmin Ultra VIRB 30 and the Yi II 4K Action Camera, I think the Go Pro 5 better suits my needs.
I chose the Go Pro Hero 5 for its ease of use without having to worry about a case. I’m also not an extreme sports enthusiast and wouldn’t use all the metrics provided in the VIRB 30 either. The Yi 4K is attractive but I really love the sound and video quality of the Hero 5. It’s only a hundred and fifty more but I might as well get a good one since I’ll be having it for awhile.
I’d like to start making some cool youtube videos too in preparations for my travels. I’m waiting on getting the camera until my paycheck comes in the latter half of the month.
